Military Warns of Sallah Terror Plot In North East
The Nigerian military has warned residents of the North East to stay alert during the upcoming Eid-el-Kabir celebrations following intelligence suggesting possible attacks by Boko Haram and ISWAP.
The alert was issued on Sunday by Operation HADIN KAI headquarters.
Security authorities said there are concerns that the groups may try to use the festive period to target crowded places.
They noted that suicide bombers and improvised explosive devices could be used in planned attacks on civilians.
The military stated that troops have already been deployed across vulnerable areas ahead of the Sallah period.
Surveillance operations, patrols and coordination with other security agencies have also been increased to prevent any breach.
Residents were advised to avoid crowded locations where possible and remain watchful during the celebrations.
Security forces also urged the public to report suspicious activity while assuring that measures are in place to keep the region safe.
