Court Confirms Mark As ADC Leadership
The African Democratic Congress has welcomed a Federal High Court ruling in Abuja recognising David Mark and members of the party’s National Working Committee as its legitimate national officers.
The court also directed the Independent National Electoral Commission to recognise the current leadership.
Justice M. S. Liman struck out the suit after ruling that it concerned the party’s internal affairs, which fall outside the court’s jurisdiction. The judge also found that the plaintiff lacked the legal standing to file the case and did not follow the party’s internal dispute process.
The ADC said the judgment confirmed that its leadership emerged in line with the party’s constitution and existing laws. It described the decision as a boost for Nigeria’s multiparty democracy and said it hoped the ruling would end legal disputes over its leadership.
The party thanked its members and supporters for standing by it and urged them to remain united. It added that its focus would remain on presenting solutions to Nigeria’s economic and security challenges rather than being distracted by court cases.
