Presidency Faces Criticism As FG Prosecutes Controversial DG
The Presidency has defended the prosecution of Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi after he was charged before a Federal High Court in Abuja over alleged forgery, impersonation and conspiracy linked to a non-existent government agency.
The case has also drawn fresh criticism from senior lawyer Femi Falana, who called for an independent investigation into the matter.
According to the Presidency, Adeyemi allegedly presented himself as the head of a fictitious council, used forged appointment papers and operated several bank accounts in the names of fake government bodies.
Officials said security agencies launched investigations after complaints from government institutions and the office of the Chief of Staff.
Falana argued that the Presidency could not clear anyone connected to the controversy, insisting that only law enforcement and anti-corruption agencies should determine responsibility.
He also called for a probe into the alleged budget allocation and financial activities linked to the disputed agency.
Adeyemi has denied wrongdoing and accused the Chief of Staff of making conflicting statements about the agency.
He also demanded an independent panel to investigate his claims, while the Presidency maintained that the allegations against him should be settled in court, with the next hearing fixed for July 27.
