Court Hears New Case Against Malami
The Federal Government has withdrawn terrorism financing allegations against Abubakar Malami and his son, Abdulaziz, and filed a fresh case over alleged unlawful possession of weapons.
The move was presented in court on Wednesday in Abuja, where prosecutors sought to replace the earlier charges with a revised one.
The prosecution team, led by Akinlolu Kehinde, told the court that firearms and ammunition were discovered at Malami’s residence in Birnin Kebbi, prompting the amended charge.
Both defendants entered fresh not guilty pleas to the five counts brought against them.
Defence counsel did not object to the change but asked the court to allow existing bail conditions to stand.
With no opposition from the prosecution, the court ruled that the earlier bail granted in February would remain in force under the same terms.
The case dates back to February when the Department of State Services arraigned the pair over alleged links to terrorism financing and illegal arms possession.
The court has now fixed May 26 and June 15 for trial as proceedings continue.
