Court Summons Police Chief In Emefiele Fraud Trial
The trial of former Central Bank of Nigeria governor Godwin Emefiele continued in Abuja on Tuesday as the court ordered key witnesses to appear over allegations involving $6.23m fraud.
The case is being heard at the Federal Capital Territory High Court.
Justice Hamza Mu’azu directed former Financial Reporting Council boss Jim Obazee and Commissioner of Police Eloho Okpoziakpo to testify in the ongoing proceedings.
Both are expected to appear and provide evidence linked to investigations carried out before the charges were filed.
Emefiele is facing a 20-count charge brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, covering alleged abuse of office, conspiracy, forgery and diversion of funds.
The prosecution says the offences relate to about $6.23m.
The court also asked the witnesses to present documents connected to the naira redesign policy. The trial will continue as both prosecution and defence prepare for further hearings.
