Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have arrested Mustapha Abdullahi, the Director-General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, over an alleged ₦500 billion fraud case.
He was reportedly taken into custody in Abuja on Wednesday.
The arrest is linked to an ongoing investigation into alleged financial misconduct involving public funds.
Sources said EFCC officials carried out the operation as part of a wider probe into activities within the commission.
Abdullahi’s detention has stirred reactions within political and government circles, with many awaiting official details from the anti-graft agency.
The EFCC has yet to release a full statement on the allegations or possible charges.
The development adds to the growing list of corruption investigations involving top government officials as anti-corruption agencies continue scrutiny of public institutions across the country.
