NANNM Raises Alarm Over 16,000 Nurse Relocation
The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives has called for urgent action following a sharp rise in the number of Nigerian nurses relocating abroad, with about 16,000 reportedly moving to the United Kingdom in 2025.
The association expressed concern over the growing shortage of health workers in the country, warning that the trend is weakening Nigeria’s healthcare system and increasing pressure on remaining staff.
It attributed the migration to poor working conditions, low pay, and limited career growth opportunities, which continue to push many professionals to seek better prospects overseas.
The development has renewed calls for reforms in the health sector, with stakeholders urging government to improve welfare packages and working environments to reduce further loss of skilled nurses.
