Ex Power Minister Begins Jail Term In Abuja
Former Minister of Power, Saleh Mamman, has been moved to the Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja after a Federal High Court ordered the start of his 75-year prison sentence.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission confirmed the transfer following his appearance in court on Tuesday. The ruling was delivered by Justice James Omotosho.
The court session also covered fresh moves by the EFCC to take over several properties linked to the ex-minister.
Prosecutors asked the court to approve the seizure of additional assets believed to be connected to funds from his time in office.
The application was submitted alongside earlier judgment enforcement steps.
During proceedings, a man who identified himself as Mamman’s relative told the court the former minister had travelled to Kaduna after his conviction due to health concerns.
Mamman also told the court he had been unwell and had stayed away from earlier sittings. His lawyer was not present during the latest hearing.
Justice Omotosho stated that Mamman’s sentence would take effect immediately after the ruling.
The court later adjourned the forfeiture hearing to allow him time to secure legal representation. Mamman was earlier convicted on 13 May 2026 over the diversion of about N33.8 billion in public funds.
