US Reduces Military Presence in Nigeria
The United States has reduced the number of its military personnel involved in a joint counterterrorism mission in Nigeria’s Lake Chad Basin.
The move affects most of the troops deployed for the operation, while security cooperation between both countries continues.
The decision forms part of adjustments to the joint mission, with Washington scaling back its physical military presence.
Despite the withdrawal, the US will continue working with Nigerian authorities on intelligence sharing and other security support.
The partnership between both countries remains active in the fight against terrorism and other security threats in the region. American officials are expected to maintain collaboration through information exchange and other forms of assistance.
The latest development means the mission will continue with fewer US troops on the ground, while both countries sustain efforts aimed at tackling insurgency and improving regional security.
