FG Sets Two Week Limit On Road Closures
The Federal Government has issued a directive to contractors handling ongoing legacy road projects across Nigeria, warning against prolonged blockage of public roads during construction activities.
The order is aimed at reducing disruption to traffic and daily movement across affected areas.
According to the directive, contractors are not allowed to restrict vehicular access on any road section for more than 14 days under any condition.
The government said project execution must be planned in a way that keeps roads partially open or provides alternative routes where necessary.
Officials explained that the decision follows growing complaints from road users over delays and congestion caused by long-term construction closures.
The move is also part of efforts to improve coordination between contractors and relevant agencies overseeing infrastructure works.
The government stressed that compliance will be closely monitored, adding that any contractor who fails to follow the instruction will face sanctions as authorities push for smoother traffic flow during ongoing road development projects.
