INEC Receives Adebayo As SDP Presidential Candidate
The Social Democratic Party has officially submitted the name of Adewole Adebayo to the Independent National Electoral Commission as its presidential candidate for the 2027 election.
The party forwarded the details after its national convention and presidential primary held in Bauchi on May 9, 2026. The submission marks the start of the formal nomination process ahead of the next general election.
In a letter signed by SDP National Secretary Olu Agunloye, the party informed INEC that Adebayo emerged as its presidential flag bearer after the exercise at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium.
Party officials said the convention and direct primary election were peaceful and successful. Delegates and party members reportedly gave overwhelming support to the former candidate.
The SDP also requested nomination documents from INEC to complete the official registration process for its candidate.
The party asked for Forms EC9, EC9A, EC9B, EC9C, EC9D and EC9E as part of preparations for the 2027 poll. The move places the SDP among the early parties finalising their presidential nominations.
Adebayo, who flew the SDP flag during the 2023 presidential election, returned unopposed at the Bauchi convention. He was the only aspirant seeking the party’s ticket for the 2027 race.
His emergence is expected to shape the party’s strategy as political activities gradually build ahead of the election year.
