The Kano State House of Assembly was thrown into mourning on Wednesday following the sudden deaths of two of its members within the space of an hour.
The Assembly’s spokesperson, Kamaludden Shawai, confirmed the events to PREMIUM TIMES.
Aminu Sa’adu, representing Ungoggo Local Government Area, reportedly died on Wednesday morning after a brief illness. Shortly after, Sarki Aliyu, the lawmaker for Kano Municipal LGA, also passed away.
Shawai said Aliyu collapsed at the Assembly complex upon hearing news of Sa’adu’s death and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The two lawmakers, who were close friends, have left the Assembly and their constituents in Ungoggo and Kano Municipal in shock. Lawmakers described the double loss as an unprecedented tragedy for the state’s political leadership.
