The Government has announced plans to independently purchase antiretroviral medicines for people living with . The move will make Lagos the first state in Nigeria to fund the procurement of the drugs on its own.

State officials said the first batch of the medicines is expected to arrive before the end of August. The initiative is aimed at ensuring a steady supply of treatment for residents living with HIV.

The government said the decision forms part of efforts to strengthen healthcare services and prevent interruptions in access to life-saving medication. It believes the programme will improve treatment for thousands of patients across the state.

Health authorities expressed confidence that the plan will support long-term HIV care while reducing dependence on external sources for the supply of antiretroviral medicines.
