New Bandit Attack Emptys Out Sokoto Villages
Fresh bandit attacks have forced residents to flee several communities in , while reports also claimed the Chief Imam of Talluje was killed. Panic spread on Thursday as families abandoned their homes and escaped on foot with their belongings.
The latest violence came a day after gunmen reportedly attacked Talluje, killing two people, rustling livestock and firing shots for nearly two hours.
News of the attacks quickly reached nearby areas, leading many traders to shut their shops as villagers rushed into Sokoto town.
A resident of Sokoto said many displaced people arrived from villages around the airport and Bodinga.
Although he could not confirm the identity of the cleric, he said reports across the area claimed a respected community figure was among those killed.
More communities, including Danchadi, Dabagi, Karaje, Taqule, Zango, Biri, Illela, Horo and Danbaro, were also deserted as fear of fresh attacks grew.
Residents are calling for stronger security as the crisis continues to spread across rural parts of the state.
