Lawal Quits ADC Over Primary Dispute
Former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has resigned from the African Democratic Congress, citing concerns over the party’s recently concluded primaries.
His exit adds to growing tensions within the opposition party.
Lawal accused the party leadership of failing to conduct a fair exercise.
He alleged that the primaries were manipulated and that the process did not give all aspirants an equal opportunity to compete.
According to him, the exercise was tilted in favour of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and some of his political associates.
He maintained that the outcome was predetermined and did not reflect a transparent democratic process.
The former SGF said his decision to leave was based on principle and dissatisfaction with the conduct of the primaries.
His resignation is expected to trigger fresh debate within the party as preparations for the 2027 elections continue.
