Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, has admitted that the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), never issued him a degree certificate, despite being listed as one of its graduates.

Nnaji made the revelation while addressing the ongoing certificate scandal that has drawn public attention. He explained that although he completed his studies at UNN decades ago, the university failed to release his certificate due to administrative issues that were never resolved.

“I studied at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and completed my program successfully. However, up till today, I have not been issued my certificate by the institution,” he stated.

The minister’s admission follows rising scrutiny over the authenticity of academic qualifications among public officials. Critics have questioned why he has continued to present himself as a UNN graduate without a verifiable degree certificate.

Nnaji maintained that his academic journey and public service record are transparent, adding that he has no reason to forge or misrepresent any document.

The development has sparked mixed reactions, with many Nigerians calling for a thorough investigation into the matter and for the University of Nigeria to clarify the minister’s academic status.
