NCAA Grounds Aircraft After Asaba Road Landing Incident
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority has grounded a private aircraft after it mistakenly landed on the Asaba–Ogwashi-Uku Expressway in Delta State instead of the Asaba International Airport.
The aircraft later took off from the road without official clearance, triggering regulatory action.
The incident happened on Wednesday when the plane reportedly attempted to land at the airport but carried out a missed approach and came down on a concrete section of the expressway still under construction.
Residents and motorists watched in shock as the aircraft touched down on the busy road.
Aviation authorities confirmed that all four crew members on board were safe and left the scene without injuries. They were later transported to Asaba by road after the unusual landing.
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, said the aircraft also took off again without approval and flew back to Lagos.
He added that the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority has grounded the aircraft, suspended the operator’s non-commercial permit and launched a full investigation into the incident.
