NDC Aspirants Rejects Enugu By-election Primary Result
Fresh controversy has erupted within the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) after some aspirants in the Enugu North Senatorial District bye-election rejected the outcome of the party’s primary election conducted on May 26 and 29.
The aggrieved contenders said they were dissatisfied with the process that produced the party’s candidate.
The protest was made public on Thursday in Enugu through a statement issued on behalf of the affected aspirants.
The statement was jointly signed by Vincent Obetta and Okay Agbo, who accused party leaders of failing to conduct a fair and transparent exercise.
According to the aspirants, the primary process did not reflect the wishes of party members and was allegedly manipulated to favour a preferred candidate.
They claimed the outcome amounted to the imposition of a candidate rather than a genuine democratic contest.
The development has created fresh tension within the party ahead of the bye-election, with the aggrieved aspirants demanding a review of the process.
The dispute is expected to test the party’s ability to manage internal disagreements as preparations for the poll continue.
