Unilorin SSANU AND NASU Joins Nationwide Strike
In Ilorin, activities at the University of Ilorin were halted on Monday as members of Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and Non Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions joined a nationwide indefinite strike.
The workers staged a protest at the school gate, demanding better pay and fair treatment.
Union leaders said the action followed the Federal Government’s failure to conclude talks on the 2009 agreement with non-teaching staff.
They insisted that their demands include full implementation of the agreement and a 45 per cent salary increase, rejecting a lower offer.
They also raised concerns over unpaid salary arrears and what they described as unequal treatment compared to academic staff.
According to them, non-teaching workers play key roles in running the university system and should not be sidelined.
The strike has disrupted campus operations, affecting transport and daily activities. The unions said the action will continue until their demands are met, despite ongoing talks with government officials.
