Tinubu’s Borrowing Is Economic Vandalism – Atiku
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticised President Bola Tinubu over reports of another $1.25 billion loan discussion with the World Bank.
He described the administration’s growing debt profile as harmful and lacking transparency.
Atiku said Nigerians were promised economic recovery and better infrastructure, yet many citizens still struggle with hunger, poor roads, high energy costs and weak electricity supply.
He argued that constant borrowing has not improved daily life across the country.
The former vice president also questioned why Nigeria keeps seeking large foreign loans despite government claims of rising revenue.
He warned that the country risks falling deeper into debt dependency years after exiting the Paris Club debt burden.
He further asked the Federal Government to publish details of all loans secured since May 2023, including how the funds were used.
Atiku also urged international lenders to demand greater accountability before approving fresh credit facilities for Nigeria.
