Nigerian entrepreneur Obinwanne Okeke, popularly known as Invictus Obi, has been released from prison in the United States, years before completing his 10-year sentence for fraud.

The US Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) website shows that Okeke was no longer in custody as of Wednesday, December 23, 2025, with his status recorded as “Not in BOP Custody as of: 12/23/2025.”

Okeke was sentenced in February 2021 after pleading guilty to charges related to an $11 million internet fraud scheme. Originally, he was scheduled to remain in prison until September 3, 2028, though it is unclear whether his early release involves supervised release or another legal provision.

The entrepreneur was arrested by the FBI at Dulles International Airport in 2019 for his involvement in an email compromise scheme targeting Unatrac Holding Limited, the export sales office for Caterpillar heavy industrial and farm equipment.

In the 2018 incident, a Unatrac executive was deceived by a phishing email that enabled the conspirators to access login credentials, issue fraudulent wire transfer requests, and attach fake invoices.

Okeke, who had previously been named among Forbes’ 100 Most Influential Young Africans, had gained recognition as a rising tech entrepreneur before his arrest and conviction.
