Nigeria Aviation Fees Under Fire
The International Air Transport Association has identified Nigeria among countries where aviation charges are higher than the global average.
The report places Nigeria alongside several African nations facing similar cost pressures. Airlines operating in these regions continue to deal with rising fees across the sector.
The development means travellers are paying more for flights, as airlines pass on the burden of multiple charges. These include airport fees, taxes, and other levies imposed by authorities.
As a result, ticket prices remain high compared to many parts of the world.
The issue was raised during a recent aviation gathering in Addis Ababa, where industry players discussed challenges affecting air transport in Africa.
The situation continues to affect Nigeria’s aviation space and limits smooth travel within the region.
The group warned that high costs could weaken demand for air travel and slow growth in the sector.
It urged governments to review these charges to support airlines and improve connectivity. Without changes, the cost of flying may remain out of reach for many travellers.
