Ondo Doctors Issues Ultimatum To Aiyedatiwa
In Ondo State, medical doctors under the Nigeria Medical Association gave Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa an eight-day deadline over unpaid allowances and welfare concerns.
The warning came on Monday through the state branch led by Muyiwa Alonge. The group said conditions had worsened and urgent steps were needed. They stressed that their demands were long overdue.
The doctors said the crisis stems from failure to apply two federal circulars on salary adjustments and allowances.
They noted that colleagues in other states had been enjoying these benefits for months. They also pointed to unpaid 2024 promotion allowances and a lack of new recruitment. The situation, they said, has left the system stretched.
Many doctors have reportedly left the state, leaving fewer hands to handle growing workloads. Those still in service now cover multiple roles daily.
They also complained about poor facilities and outdated equipment. The group said repeated meetings and letters to the government had not produced results.
They called for immediate payment of all outstanding benefits and urgent hiring of health workers.
The association fixed April 28, 2026, as the deadline for action. If nothing changes, they plan to meet and decide on next steps, which could include a strike.
