A personal aide to former Nigerian Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon (retd.), has dismissed widespread claims suggesting that the elder statesman has passed away.
In a statement released on Sunday, Mr Adeyeye Ajayi described the reports making the rounds on social media as untrue and deceptive, urging the public to disregard them.
Ajayi stressed that General Gowon is very much alive, in good health, and continues to remain engaged in national affairs.
According to him, the former leader still participates in public functions and regularly lends his voice to conversations centred on peace, national unity, and Nigeria’s development.
He cautioned against the circulation of unverified information, noting that such rumours often create needless anxiety and emotional distress.
Ajayi further appealed to Nigerians to always verify news through credible and reliable sources before sharing it with others.
