Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, will commence a month-long leave on Friday, August 29, 2025.
The announcement was made in a notification letter to the House of Assembly, read during Tuesday’s plenary by Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin.
The letter, in line with Section 190(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, ensures the governor formally informs the Assembly before taking leave.
In his letter, Governor Makinde requested leave and officially handed over the duties of the office to Deputy Governor, Barrister Bayo Lawal, who will act as Governor during the period.
“I hereby transmit that during the period indicated above, the Deputy Governor, Barrister Bayo Lawal, shall serve as Acting Governor. I shall resume duty upon my return from vacation on Monday, 29th September 2025,” the letter partly read.
The House acknowledged the notification and pledged its support for a smooth transition of responsibilities in the governor’s absence. The Speaker emphasized the Assembly’s commitment to constitutional order and the continuity of governance in the state.
With the formal notification and the Assembly’s affirmation, Barrister Bayo Lawal is set to assume full responsibilities of the Governor’s office from August 29 until Governor Makinde resumes on September 29. The House is scheduled to resume plenary on September 16, 2025.
