Police Begins Crackdown On Hidden Number Plates
Police in Rivers State have announced a statewide operation targeting vehicles with covered, defaced, fake or missing number plates.
The enforcement begins on Monday and is aimed at improving public safety and reducing criminal activity on the roads.
Authorities say offenders will face seizure of their vehicles and prosecution.
The Rivers State Police Command explained that the directive follows instructions from the Inspector General of Police.
Area commanders and divisional police officers have been told to carry out strict enforcement in all parts of the state.
Any vehicle found breaking the rule will be impounded without delay.
The command also instructed officers involved in the exercise to maintain discipline and act within the law.
They were warned to avoid harassment, extortion or any form of abuse while carrying out their duties. Disciplinary action will follow any misconduct during the operation.
Police said the move is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security and stop criminals from hiding their identities on public roads.
Motorists were advised to ensure their number plates are properly fixed and clearly visible to avoid arrest or penalties.
