Police Launch Search For Abducted FUTO Students
The Imo State Police Command has begun a search to rescue a 17-year-old student of Federal University of Technology Owerri, Mary Uzoma, who was reportedly kidnapped along the FUTO–Ihiagwa Road in Owerri West.
The incident was confirmed on Tuesday as security agencies moved in quickly.
Police spokesperson Okoye Henry said officers, working with local vigilantes, were deployed immediately after the report. He added that search efforts are ongoing as teams comb the area for leads.
The command said it is using intelligence-driven methods to track down those responsible.
Commissioner of Police Audu Garba Bosso has directed the Anti-Kidnapping Unit to take charge of the case.
Security presence has also been increased around the FUTO axis, with patrols and surveillance stepped up to prevent further incidents.
Authorities assured students and residents of their safety, urging calm while operations continue.
The police also called on the public to share any useful information that could help rescue the victim and arrest the suspects.
