SDP Pushes Unity After Court Ruling
The Social Democratic Party has begun fresh efforts to settle internal disputes after a court affirmed Shehu Gabam as national chairman and the Independent National Electoral Commission recognised his leadership.
Gabam said the party is now focused on healing divisions ahead of upcoming elections.
He spoke during a television interview, describing party crises as common in politics and sometimes useful for growth.
He noted that disagreements often arise from shifting interests but can be managed to strengthen party structure and direction over time.
Gabam said talks are ongoing with aggrieved members to restore unity, especially as parties face tight timelines for primaries and other electoral activities.
He maintained that the court ruling has settled leadership questions and urged members to move forward.
He also ruled out involvement in any opposition coalition for now, stating that the party prefers to stand on its own.
However, he left room for future alliances if needed, stressing that rebuilding unity remains the immediate priority.
