SSANU Sets Strike Deadline, Issues Ultimatum To Tinubu
In Nigeria, the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities has rejected claims that its wage talks with the Federal Government have been concluded.
The union said negotiations are still ongoing despite reports of a 30 per cent allowance increase. It described the circulating document as misleading. The development follows a meeting held in Abuja on April 18.
SSANU said discussions have continued through several meetings since 2024. The union criticised the alleged approval letter, calling it a breach of due process.
It maintained that no final agreement has been reached. Leaders insisted that any outcome must reflect what was negotiated.
The union also reaffirmed its April 30 deadline for the government to conclude talks. It warned that failure to reach an agreement would trigger an indefinite strike.
The action is being coordinated with the Non Academic Staff Union under a joint platform. The planned strike could affect universities, polytechnics and colleges nationwide.
SSANU urged members to remain united while awaiting the government’s response. It also called on President Bola Tinubu to address the situation.
The union stressed its commitment to workers’ welfare. The standoff adds to growing pressure on the government over labour issues.
