The Super Eagles of Nigeria earned a vital 2–1 victory over Lesotho on Friday, keeping their hopes of qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup firmly alive.
After a tense first half, captain William Troost-Ekong converted a penalty in the 55th minute to give Nigeria the lead. Substitute Akor Adams later doubled the advantage in the 80th minute with a well-taken goal.
Lesotho’s Hlompho Kalake reduced the deficit just three minutes later, but the Super Eagles stayed composed to see out the win.
With the result, Nigeria now sit third in Group C with 14 points — one behind South Africa and three adrift of leaders Benin. The Super Eagles will return to action on Tuesday in Uyo, where they face Benin Republic in a decisive encounter that could shape their World Cup qualification fate.
