WASSCE Records Higher Female Enrolment
The West African Examinations Council has announced that female candidates registered in higher numbers than males for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination.
The development marks a change from the previous year’s registration pattern.
WAEC said the latest figures showed growing participation of girls in secondary school examinations across Nigeria and other participating countries.
Education stakeholders described the trend as a positive sign for female access to education and academic opportunities.
The examination body explained that preparations for the 2026 WASSCE were already underway, with arrangements being finalised to ensure a smooth conduct of the examination nationwide.
Officials also urged candidates to comply with examination rules and avoid malpractice.
Observers say the rise in female enrolment may reflect increasing awareness about girl-child education and expanding access to learning opportunities in different parts of the country.
The development is expected to shape future education planning and admission trends.
