Why Obi, Kwankwaso Stayed Away From PRP – Baba Ahmed
The Peoples Redemption Party has explained why former presidential candidates Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso did not join the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
PRP National Chairman, Dr Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, said discussions with both politicians failed after disagreements over conditions for joining the party.
Speaking during a political programme in Kaduna, Baba-Ahmed said Obi and Kwankwaso approached the party for possible collaboration.
He disclosed that the talks later broke down after issues arose over requests linked to the party’s presidential ticket and leadership positions.
According to him, the PRP refused to hand over automatic tickets to any aspirant without following internal democratic procedures.
He said the party insisted that anyone seeking office must first become a member and compete through the approved process.
Baba-Ahmed also linked the failed negotiations to concerns raised about the party’s registration details and internal disputes.
Despite the collapse of the talks, he said both sides ended discussions peacefully without any political conflict.
