Senate President Godswill Akpabio returned to Nigeria early Monday after a short vacation in London, quelling rumours about his health.
His arrival at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport around 4:00 a.m. ended widespread speculation that he was critically ill and hospitalised abroad.
Akpabio, who had attended the Sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in Geneva from July 29 to 31 before heading to London, was welcomed at the Presidential Wing by senators, aides, and supporters.
Speaking to journalists, he pledged “robust legislative engagements” as the National Assembly prepares to resume and defended Nigeria’s strong representation at the Geneva conference, promising “more derivatives of democratic governance and effective collaboration with the other arms of government.”
Dismissing the health rumours, Akpabio quipped: “If you listen to the social media, you will go to war.”
