Court Fixes Date For PDP Leadership Battle
The Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed July 7 to hear a suit filed by the Peoples Democratic Party Board of Trustees led by Adolphus Wabara.
The group wants the Independent National Electoral Commission to recognise the Kabir Turaki-led interim National Working Committee before the 2027 election process advances.
The court directed all parties to file and exchange their remaining documents before July 6. It also warned that no further delays would be accepted, noting the urgency of the case because of INEC’s election timetable.
The plaintiffs argued that INEC should update its records to reflect the Turaki-led leadership and accept all official communications from the interim committee.
They said the request followed previous court decisions and was necessary before the deadline for submitting candidates.
Meanwhile, another PDP faction led by Mohammed Abdulrahman has already been recognised by INEC and has begun processing candidates for the 2027 elections.
The court’s decision is expected to determine which leadership the electoral commission will officially recognise.
