EFCC Dismisses Benin Raid Claim
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has dismissed reports that its operatives were chased away during a raid in Benin City.
The agency described the claim as false and misleading. It said the story circulating on social media is not true. The clarification was issued on Friday.
The report had alleged that some youths resisted an early morning operation along Airport Road. It further claimed the operatives were forced to retreat. The commission, however, said the account was fabricated. It urged the public to disregard the information.
In a separate development, the EFCC confirmed the arrest of businessman Tunde Ayeni in Abuja. He is being investigated over an alleged multi-billion naira fraud.
Authorities said the probe involves claims of fund diversion linked to companies associated with him.
The agency said investigations are ongoing as it works to uncover the full details. The alleged case involves large sums in both naira and foreign currency.
Officials have not released further details at this stage. The EFCC maintains its commitment to tackling financial crimes.
