NLC, TUC Decry Hardship And Insecurity
Leaders of the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress have raised alarm over rising insecurity and poverty in Nigeria.
They spoke at a pre-May Day lecture in Abuja ahead of the 2026 Workers’ Day celebration.
Labour leaders said worsening conditions are affecting jobs, welfare, and productivity.
They warned that many Nigerians now struggle with poor working conditions, while most jobs remain in the informal sector without security or benefits.
They added that insecurity is driving people away from farms and businesses, worsening food supply and economic activity.
Calls were made for stronger action and unity to tackle the challenges facing workers across the country.
Amid the concerns, divisions also surfaced within labour ranks in Edo State over May Day plans, while other states like Oyo praised improved worker welfare and ongoing support for employees.
