Obi Blames Nigerians For Election Rigging
The presidential candidate of has said that elections in Nigeria are often rigged because citizens fail to actively protect their votes.
He stated that credible elections depend not only on politicians but also on the commitment of voters to defend the electoral process.
Obi made the remarks during a visit to Washington, D.C., in a video that began circulating on social media.
He said Nigerians must take greater responsibility for ensuring that their votes are properly counted, insisting that democracy cannot function effectively without public participation at polling units.
The former governor argued that many voters abandon polling stations after casting their ballots, which weakens the transparency of the process.
He said citizens should remain present during counting to help safeguard the outcome and prevent manipulation.
Obi also pointed to leadership as Nigeria’s central challenge, saying the country has enough resources for development but suffers from poor governance.
He urged citizens to stay engaged in the electoral process and demand accountability from those seeking public office.
