Obi Calls For Nnamdi Kanu’s Release
The presidential candidate has renewed his call for the release of , saying there is no justification for his continued detention.
He made the remarks during an interaction with Nigerians in Washington, D.C., in a video that has been widely shared online.
Obi said he has consistently maintained that Kanu should not remain in custody.
He argued that expressing views or speaking publicly should not be treated as a criminal offence, adding that public criticism and name-calling are part of political life and should not lead to detention.
The former governor said that if given the opportunity to lead, he would prefer dialogue in addressing agitation across the country.
According to him, engaging different groups would help government better understand their concerns and work towards peaceful solutions.
Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, is currently serving a life sentence following his conviction on terrorism-related charges by a Federal High Court in Abuja in November 2025.
He has since appealed the judgment, while his legal team insists the trial was unfair and is seeking its reversal.
