Obi, Kwankwaso Joins NDC
In Abuja on Sunday, former presidential candidates Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso formally joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress as political alignments ahead of the 2027 elections continue to shift.
The move followed Obi’s recent exit from the African Democratic Congress and came during a reception attended by party leaders and supporters.
The two leaders said they chose the new platform to avoid the internal disputes and court cases that have troubled other parties.
They called on members to stay away from litigation and focus on building a stable political structure that can address national challenges and improve governance.
Their decision came after weeks of talks with party leaders and allies, where they found common ground on issues such as education, youth empowerment, security and national unity.
Both men also urged Nigerians, including those in the diaspora, to register with the party ahead of upcoming deadlines set by the electoral body.
The development is part of wider opposition realignments as groups seek a strong front against the ruling party in 2027.
Supporters of both leaders say their influence is growing, while critics argue that constant party changes raise concerns about long-term political commitment.
