Obi, Kwankwaso Ticket Gains Ground For 2027
Former Kano State Governor and leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has said a joint presidential ticket with Peter Obi under the Nigeria Democratic Congress may be the most likely opposition plan for the 2027 elections.
He made the comment during a television interview on growing political alignments.
Kwankwaso said discussions within the party point towards a possible Obi-Kwankwaso pairing, adding that the idea fits the current political mood among supporters.
He noted that both men remain strong figures in different regions of the country.
He described Obi as widely popular in the South and with support in parts of the North, while also stressing the strength of his own Kwankwasiyya structure in northern Nigeria.
He pointed to past electoral victories linked to his political base as proof of its reach.
He added that a combined ticket could present a strong challenge to the ruling party in 2027, especially given the support both politicians command.
The remarks have added to ongoing discussions about possible opposition alliances ahead of the next general election.
