Obidients, Kwankwasiyya Starts Fundraiser For Alliance
Supporters of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso have started coalition talks ahead of the 2027 general elections, with both groups backing a possible joint presidential ticket under the Nigeria Democratic Congress.
The move was unveiled during the party’s aspirants’ summit in Abuja.
Backers of the Obidient and Kwankwasiyya movements also announced plans to raise ₦60 million to purchase a joint nomination form.
Organisers described the fundraising effort as a grassroots campaign aimed at building opposition unity before the next elections.
Representatives of both camps urged politicians within the party to place competence and national interest above personal ambition.
They also warned against defections and alliances built only on political convenience without clear direction or ideology.
Party officials assured aspirants that the selection process would remain transparent, while veteran politician Buba Galadima warned that internal disputes could weaken coalition efforts.
Political observers say the talks may shape the strength of the opposition ahead of 2027.
