The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrosheed Akanbi, has refuted claims that he smokes marijuana, describing the allegations as false and cursing those spreading them.
In a viral video from a public event, the monarch said:
“They are lying against me. They are unfortunate people. Unless I am smoking marijuana, if I’m a smoker, God should remove me from this throne. You who are accusing me of being a smoker, God will punish you.”
The denial comes shortly after the Court of Appeal upheld his enthronement as the paramount ruler of Iwoland, a ruling Oba Akanbi celebrated as a divine affirmation of his reign. He emphasized that his leadership is ordained by God and cannot be undermined by human efforts.
Oba Akanbi also reiterated his commitment to preserving Iwo’s cultural heritage while modernizing traditions, highlighting how his reign has attracted federal attention to the town and enhanced its profile.
He dismissed his court challengers as wasteful, noting that their actions only served to strengthen his position.
The monarch has previously been involved in controversies, including a suspension by the Osun State Council of Traditional Rulers following a physical altercation with another monarch. Years ago, a video allegedly released by his ex-wife circulated online, purportedly showing him rolling a joint.
