Peter Obi Rejects Ethnic Profiling Of Criminals
Peter Obi, former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has cautioned Nigerians against linking criminal activity to any ethnic group.
He made the remarks while addressing concerns over rising insecurity and growing public debate on identity and crime in the country.
He stated that responsibility for crime should rest on individuals and not be extended to entire communities.
According to him, such generalisation creates division, fuels suspicion and weakens efforts to build unity among citizens.
Obi’s comments come amid renewed discussions on insecurity, where certain groups have often been singled out in public conversations.
He urged Nigerians to avoid narratives that paint entire ethnic communities in a negative light based on the actions of a few persons.
He also called for stronger cooperation between citizens and security agencies in tackling insecurity.
He noted that lasting peace depends on fairness, respect and a collective effort to avoid stereotypes that could deepen tension.
