SERAP Demands Probe From NANS Over Mystery N1.3bn Budget
The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project has asked the National Assembly to investigate the ₦1.3 billion allocated to the alleged Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council in the 2026 budget.
The group also demanded the release of all records linked to the approval after the Presidency stated that the council does not exist.
In a Freedom of Information request dated July 4, 2026, SERAP sought documents showing how the allocation was approved, the lawmakers and committees involved, and the government officials who defended the budget.
It also asked whether the funding came from the Executive’s original proposal or was inserted during legislative consideration.
The organisation said the conflicting claims over the council’s existence raise fresh concerns about transparency, budget oversight and public spending.
It argued that Nigerians deserve to know whether money was approved for an agency that was not legally established and whether lawmakers properly examined the allocation.
SERAP warned that it would take legal action if the National Assembly failed to release the requested records within seven days.
It said making the documents public would strengthen accountability and restore confidence in the country’s budget process, following the Presidency’s denial that the council exists.
