Ruslan Obiang Nsue, son of Equatorial Guinea’s President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, is on trial in Malabo for allegedly selling an ATR 72-500 aircraft belonging to the state-owned airline, Ceiba Intercontinental.
Prosecutors are seeking an 18-year prison sentence and a fine of 500 million CFA francs (around $850,000). Nsue, who previously served as deputy general director of the airline, admitted to signing a contract to sell the plane to Spain’s Binter Technic for €250,000, although he said only €125,000 was received and deposited into his Spanish bank account.
The investigation began in late 2022 after the aircraft went missing during maintenance in Spain, leading to Nsue’s arrest in January 2023. The trial is ongoing, and no verdict has been delivered.
