Supreme Court To Decide On ADC Crisis
The Supreme Court of Nigeria has reserved judgment in the leadership dispute within the African Democratic Congress after hearing arguments from all parties.
The case was decided by a five-member panel led by Mohammed Garba. A final ruling date is yet to be announced.
The appeal was filed by David Mark, who is leading one faction of the party.
He is challenging an earlier Court of Appeal decision and argues that the matter concerns internal party affairs that courts should not handle.
He also asked that Independent National Electoral Commission be stopped from recognising any rival leadership.
Other parties in the case, including members aligned with Nafiu Bala Gombe, urged the court to dismiss the appeal.
They maintained that the lower court acted within its powers and that the dispute should continue through proper legal channels.
INEC had earlier removed names of some leaders from its records and said it would remain neutral pending a final decision.
The outcome from the apex court is expected to shape the party’s leadership and determine its direction ahead of upcoming political activities.
