Tinubu Praises US On Counterterrorism Success
President Bola Tinubu has confirmed the killing of ISIS commander Abu-Bilal al-Minuki in a joint military operation involving Nigerian and United States forces.
The operation took place in the Lake Chad Basin as part of ongoing counterterrorism efforts in the region.
The development was first announced by US President Donald Trump before being backed by the Nigerian government.
Tinubu described the mission as a strong example of cooperation between both countries in tackling extremist groups.
He said the operation led to the death of the target and several of his close associates during the raid. According to him, the action delivered a major setback to the Islamic State network operating in the area.
The President also expressed appreciation to both Nigerian and US military personnel for their coordination and bravery during the mission.
He noted that continued collaboration would lead to more operations against terrorist groups across the country. Tinubu added that the fight against terrorism would remain a top security priority.
Tinubu said he expects further coordinated actions aimed at dismantling terrorist hideouts nationwide.
He praised the success of the mission and reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to working with international partners on security matters.
The Presidency said the operation reflects ongoing efforts to weaken extremist networks in the region.
