Tinubu Unveils 7 Key Things On The New NYSC Plan
President Bola Tinubu has approved the biggest reform of the National Youth Service Corps in decades, introducing major changes aimed at improving the scheme.
The reforms are expected to modernise operations, improve corps members’ safety and prepare young graduates with practical skills for the future.
The new framework introduces a fully digital call-up process, security-based deployment and a redesigned six-week orientation programme that will focus on leadership, entrepreneurship, digital skills and specialised career training.
Corps members will also be posted to organisations that match their qualifications and career goals.
The scheme will now be managed by civilian operational leaders, while the military will continue to provide security for corps members.
The government also plans to improve orientation camps through a national grading and certification system to raise standards across the country.
Another major change is the replacement of the traditional Passing Out Parade with a graduation ceremony.
Corps members will also receive a redesigned NYSC uniform as part of efforts to give the scheme a more professional image, while the NYSC Act will be amended to support the new reforms.
