Togo, Benin And Niger Republic Owe Nigeria Billions For Electricity
Togo, Benin and Niger owe Nigeria about N17.45 billion for electricity supplied during the first quarter of 2026. The unpaid bill covers power exported to the three neighbouring countries under existing supply arrangements.
The outstanding debt was recorded after electricity deliveries continued across the region despite delays in payment. The figures relate to power supplied between January and March this year.
The growing debt has renewed concerns over delayed payments for cross-border electricity exports, even as Nigeria continues to provide power to neighbouring countries through regional agreements.
The development is expected to increase discussions on improving payment compliance and ensuring that outstanding bills are settled while electricity exports continue.
