Troops Rescue 10 Borno NECO Candidates, Teachers
Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have rescued 10 students and teachers abducted during a terrorist attack on Government Day Secondary School in Lassa, Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State.
The rescue came on Monday after suspected ISWAP fighters invaded the school while NECO examinations were in progress.
The military launched a joint air and ground operation shortly after receiving reports of the attack.
Security forces caught up with the fleeing terrorists near Daggu, leading to a gun battle that forced the attackers to abandon some captives. Seven motorcycles used by the terrorists were also recovered during the operation.
The military confirmed that one soldier and a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force lost their lives during the rescue mission. Efforts are continuing to find the remaining abducted students and teachers, while the rescued victims are receiving medical attention.
School officials and security authorities said the attackers stormed the school, fired shots and took away students, teachers and some traders before troops intervened.
Security has now been strengthened in the area as search operations continue to track down the fleeing terrorists.
